Molly Wichman, personal trainer in Lee's Summit, shares health and wellness tips for fitness & health. Today it is about a recent trip to Belize. A mix of island fun and jungle adventure!
I decided to get out of the suburban bubble to do fun things and see amazing sights.
Started with the goal of snorkeling in a coral reef. So I chose Belize, home of the 2nd largest coral reef, the Belize Barrier Reef. Wow, so much to take in . Snorkeled, biked, toured around the country and stayed in a jungle lodge. Here are all my trip details...let's go!
Ferry to Caye Caulker. check in at Clashing Winds Air BB. Great low key accommodations...and it has bikes. You either get around by bike or golf cart on this island.
Go to Lazy Lizard relax, jump off the plank, eat, enjoy the local culture.
Get bikes, do a tour of island, get groceries, see island by night tour.
Morning sunrise bike ride to take in all of the island vibe when it is not busy.
Snorkel tour Anda De Wada . Manta ray, sharks, barracudas, sea turtles, fish, coral.
Manatees, feed tarpon, feed pelicans. Hon Chan snorkeling Shark Ray Alley snorkel with nurse sharks, lunch at San Pedro, stop to see manatee and feed pelicans . Such a memorable experience!
Dinner Pelican Sunset bar with an amazing view of sunset over the ocean
Morning bike ride with the sunrise. Take Spit to spit ferry w our bikes. Biked to Bliss Beach. Beautiful low key beach, had a shaded seat under a palm tree just a few feet from the water. swam ,pier jumped, laid in hammocks in the water, relaxed, ate lunch, biked back. Biked to dinner at The Magic Grill. Ate amazing coconut fish and pasta Alfredo.
Up early for the ferry to Belize City. Meetup with tour guide Ryan from Mayan Cave Branch tours. I wanted to see many things in one day, so booked a private tour to all of my selections.
Visited Xunantunich Mayan Ruins, learned about the 13 levels of heaven, had lunch in San
Jose at Benny's Kitchen for mayan chicken stew and sowsop juice, Big Rock Falls where we jumped off rock, swam to a powerful waterfall sat behind it and enjoyed to powerful beauty, Rio Pools similar to Tamu Sauk in Missouri Ozarks
Finish at Ian Andersons Cave Branch Jungle lodge for our stay.
Greeted with cool towels and a tropical drink. Checked in and had a tour of the area. Our Jungle Cabana is open air hut, while having hot water and ac. Sat in hammock listening to the jungle, walked property, took bikes to the Blue Hole. Swam in the spring, to a cave and biked back. Dinner was amazing 3 course meal, then a night walk to the treehouse cabanas in a gentle rain
Got up early for a morning kayak paddle in the river on the property.
Ate an amazing breakfast buffet.
Left for our daily adventure, Waterfall Cave exploration , rind in jungle limo, saw corn crop rows in jungle. Arrived for a hike into the jungle, gear up, walk in cave, climb up waterfalls, harness in, jump in pools of water, candlelit lunch in bottom of Cave, hike out. This was the highlight of the trip. Such an amazing experience you have to do in person to get the full effect. No way to describe it.
Get back to the jungle lodge, walk thru the botanical gardens, swim in the pool, relax in the hot tub. Then go on a Jungle Night Hike. Saw some snakes, monkey squirrel, and other creatures in the dense jungle rainforest canopy, my jaw was on the ground for this experience. Just myself, a guide and a few flashlights.
Next day was our trip back home. Sad to leave, but many memories were made. Our stay
at Ian Anderson Jungle Lodge was so amazing. The staff was friendly, we
met amazing guests, and they took us on great adventures! I highly recommend any adventurous person or family check it out!
This 6 day trip created so many great memories. I won't say it was a once in a lifetime trip, because I will take other fun trips in the future. But, if you want to go somewhere, make it happen. Don't put it off, go live life to the fullest, make yourself happy, be light hearted and don't stress over the small stuff!
Note: I don't remember all of the exact animal names. My closest guess, but they were all amazing! Here is my 6 day trip wrapped up into 30 seconds!
The vibe of the Belize culture is friendly and go slow. So take a cue from this amazing experience and keep life low-key, stress low, be well so you can do fun things, and keep moving so you can take your adventures!
